Oxalate Crystallization under the Action of Brown Rot Fungi

نویسندگان

چکیده

Brown rot fungi belong to the wood-rotting fungi, which produce oxalic acid and actively decompose wood. We first found oxalates formed under action of brown in natural conditions on stone (Rogoselga adit, Karelia, Russia), proposed a model for their formation, confirmed hypothesis that frequent occurrence metal mines adits may be associated with activity these fungi. synthesized four species brown-rot (Serpula himantioides, Serpula lacrymans, Coniophora puteana, Antrodia xantha) different mineral substrates analogs all known biofilm oxalate minerals such toxic heavy metals as Pb, Cu, Mn. In addition, we compared features formation soil fungus Aspergillus niger, an active producer, widely used experiments recommended application biotechnologies. It is shown contrast A.niger, contribution metabolic crystallization exceeds underlying minerals. The prospects use xantha modern environmentally friendly biotechnologies are justified.

Decay mechanisms of brown-rot fungi

Brown-rot fungi, e.g. the dryrot fungus (Serpula lacrymans), are the most harmful microorganisms in wood in service in Finland and in temperate regions. Brownrot fungi cause wood decay primarly by attacking the carbohydrates of the cell walls, leaving lignin essentially undigested. At the initial stage of the decay, the brown-rot fungi seem to operate by a mechanism which cause extensive change...

Metal accumulation without enhanced oxalate secretion in wood degraded by brown rot fungi.

Brown rot fungi were incubated in agar and agar-wood microcosms containing metallic or hydroxide forms of Al, Cu, and Fe. Metal dissolution was associated with elevated oxalate concentrations in agar, but metals translocated into wood did not affect oxalate accumulation, crystal production, or decay rate, demonstrating a substrate-dependent oxalate dynamic.

Oxalate efflux transporter from the brown rot fungus Fomitopsis palustris.

An oxalate-fermenting brown rot fungus, Fomitopsis palustris, secretes large amounts of oxalic acid during wood decay. Secretion of oxalic acid is indispensable for the degradation of wood cell walls, but almost nothing is known about the transport mechanism by which oxalic acid is secreted from F. palustris hyphal cells. We characterized the mechanism for oxalate transport using membrane vesic...

Role of brown-rot fungi in the bioremoval of azo dyes under different conditions

The present study is vital to the understanding of bioremediation of structurally different azo dyes by some unusual Brown-rot fungi. Bioremoval of each dye (20 mg l(-1)) was tested in two different culture media under static and shaking conditions by taking inocula from different fungi. Fungal strains showed varying dyes removal abilities, though considerable high in case of Acid Red (AR) 151(...

Production and degradation of oxalic Acid by brown rot fungi.

Our results show that all of the brown rot fungi tested produce oxalic acid in liquid as well as in semisolid cultures. Gloeophyllum trabeum, which accumulates the lowest amount of oxalic acid during decay of pine holocellulose, showed the highest polysaccharide-depolymerizing activity. Semisolid cultures inoculated with this fungus rapidly converted C-labeled oxalic acid to CO(2) during cellul...
